No tengo ninguna duda que la redacción de ElPaís.com sabe que ese titular es falso y por eso ninguno de sus redactores tiene los cojones de firmar esa sarta de embustes pergeñada por el departamento de prensa de la BSA. La BSA no es, como afirma el artículo de El País, una compañía de seguridad, es una asociación creada por las principales multinacionales del software para defender su negocio. Lo cual me parece perfectamente correcto mientras se haga de forma correcta, y no vertiendo infundios contra las dos comunidades que más han hecho por promover el Software Libre en España y en el mundo.

Tanto los voceros de El País como los inductores de la BSA, aluden a un estudio de la empresa IDC. Si alguien se molesta en leer su metodología, podemos ver cómo mide el supuesto estudio: Tomamos el número total de PCs vendidos en un determinado lugar y tomamos el coste en software que la empresa IDC dice que tiene un equipo medio, multiplicamos ambos y obtenemos el coste en software que tendrían todos esos equipos en España. Después tomamos el dinero que las empresas de software han facturado y lo restamos del valor anterior. Lo que falta, según IDC, es el software que se ha pirateado.

O sea, las multinacionales del software privativo hacen un estudio que demuestra que las comunidades donde más Software Libre se utiliza ahorran dinero respecto a las que no y después intentan hacerlo pasar por un estudio que demuestra que en Extremadura y Andalucía se piratea más.

• This first item is just for the sake of comfort, I don’t like to walk to our datacenter to change a CD/DVD, so I import the CD images using NFS and then loop mount them. So, first of all, we’ll mount the CD Images:

• WEB SERVER

  We need a web server with PHP and freetds support. (FreeTDS is needed to access Microsoft SQLServer or Sybase databases). We’ll start with apache rpm’s and some dependencies:

  /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf also needs some slight changes. First one is under dir_module section

  Second one is in AddType block, we’ll add php extensions there:

  Now we’ll test the server.

  Any browser should be able to show Apache’s start page.

  To test php, we’ll write an ultra tiny page and browse there.

  All PHP options and Apache should be on that page. If everything is OK, it’s time to add apache to autostart scripts.

• POSTGRES

  We’ll work from source here, so we have to download, configure, make and install. Easy stuff!

  We should use user postgres everytime we use the database. It’s a good time to set a password for it.

  We’ll need Proj library, but it’s pretty easy to build.

  Installation deserves some more talking. First we need to add one line to /etc/ld.so.conf so the libraries are usable in exec time.

• MAPSERVER

  Now, all the infraestructure is in place so it’s time to start with the libraries that MapServer will use.

  GDAL permits to use most common GIS formats.
